Food and covered beverages are welcome everywhere in the Cushing Library except in the training room and at the public computers. Note that highly aromatic foods may have to be shared with library staff.

Wifi is available throughout the main floor of the library (and directly outside the library as well). The wifi signal is spotty on the lower floor.

Reserve items are 1 or 3-day loans, or "library use only." Items that are "library use only" can be checked out for three hours but need to stay in the facility.

Renewal - Items may be renewed in person or by telephone. Contact the Circulation Desk (510-436-1332) with the "Date Due" information and the staff will renew them.

Librarians are available to help you with your research.

Interlibrary loan allows you to borrow books or articles unavailable at Holy Names University.

Through September 2010 we are waiving interlibrary loan fees, but may be unable to acquire some items due to high fees charged by sharing libraries or exceptionally high shipment rates from some sites.

Wireless internet access is available throughout the library.

Computers and Peripheral Equipment

* Eighteen computer workstations and 2 laser printers are available. The computers provide access to the library's databases, the Internet, and office productivity software (Word, Excel, etc.).

* Wiat II & Woodcock Johnson III software is available for scoring education tests.

Library Classroom

The Library also has a Library Classroom with twenty student computer workstations, one instructor workstation, an InSight instruction system, one printer, and two LCD projectors. You can reserve this room for class presentations, special lectures, group viewing of webcasts or DVD's, staff and faculty development workshops, and similar activities. Contact the library to make a reservation. When the Library Classroom is not booked, you are welcome to use the computers in this room.

Photocopiers

* 2 photocopiers are available. Copies are $.10 each.

The library's lower level offers three private study rooms open for reservation. We also have two bigger tables for group study. To reserve a room or a table, submit a request or contact the Access Services department at 510-436-1132 for rush service. We will generally get back with you within 24 hours to confirm your reservation.

To reserve the library classroom for a class one time use, submit a request by using this form. You can check our Cushing Library Calendar for availablitiy. We will respond M-F within 24 hours. To reserve the classroom for the semester, contact Uta Lorenzen at 436-1131.
