Where should I start my search for articles?

EBSCO search filters

Search for articles using the Library Databases

If your research needs are very specific (e.g. you need to find a qualitative study or a particular patient population) than the advanced search filters in a subject area database are ideal.

Scope of the search:

Collection of articles within the database

Advantage:

Use subject-specific search filters--results are limited but targeted

Disadvantages:

Searching is limited to articles within the database--may not include the full range of articles published on your topic

WMS Discovery search filters

Search for articles using the Library Catalog

If your research topic is interdisciplinary, or you want to search several databases simultaneously a catalog search lets you explore the entire library collection.

Scope of the search:

All of the library databases

Advantage:

Search the entire collection at once--more likely to include the full range of articles published on your topic

Disadvantages:

No subject-specific search filters--requires combing through numerous results

Google Scholar search filters

Search for articles using Google Scholar

If you are struggling to find articles on your topic, Google Scholar will expand your search to include articles beyond what is available through the databases we subscribe to at HNU.

Scope of the search:

All of academic publishing

Advantage:

Find all of the articles published on your topic, where those articles are available through the HNU library you will see "Find Full Text @HNU"

Disadvantages:

Limited search filters--requires combing through numerous results
